    Hi All,

Had the pleasure of dining and drinking at your fine establishment last night on St. Pat’s day.

I chose this place because I had driven by several times and always wanted to give it a try – and after seeing the hordes and line ups downtown decided this was the night.

Myself and partner in tow found the place delightfully quiet with pockets of guests seated or milling about. This was what we were really wanting in spite of St. Paddy’s day – a respite from the noise and boisterousness of other pubs on that party night.

The food was wonderful – thumbs up on that and the beer was delicious. We would love to come back again.

The only drawback was the lack of table service. Yes I know, English style go to the bar yourself and order your food and drinks. I can see this working for the lunch crowd but those coming after work are tired (as we were) – too tired to cook at home or go grocery shopping and in need of a prepared meal with table service. It was annoying to first go up and order drinks then again for applies and yet again for more drinks and dinner.

The irony was we saw plenty of staff just hanging around the bar chatting. Fortunately the food found its way to tables without patrons having to go up and get it but we just couldn’t understand why there couldn’t be complete table service to begin with.

Placing your own orders and having to go up several times surely effects the tip at the end of the night.

Wish the “Moon” would change that policy or at least give patrons a choice.

    sincerely

    Helena

    Hi! Helena

Thanks for your comment. I am glad that you enjoyed your meal and that you liked our
place except for the lack of table service.

To note you are only the second person to write to me and comment on our self serve
    model.

We chose to do the self service model for several reasons:
    * To offer better service than the other pubs – if you are standing in a line to
place your order you at least know what you are waiting for – not sitting there
wondering if anyone even saw you come in.
    * To make people accountable for their own liquor consumption – we feel very
strongly that there is a alcohol problem in our society and we do not want to be
responsible for pushing drinks on anyone! (You may have notice that all of our beers
    are less than 5.2% ALV)
    * To offer a friendly and welcoming atmosphere – with people coming to the bar they
interact with the staff and each other.
    * To make our pub a little bit unique and similar to the pubs in England and
Australia where self service at the bar is the norm.

We do not pretend to be all things to all people, we are just a small neighbourhood
brewpub trying to set our selves apart in a city full of lots of wonderful pubs and
    restaurants.

As we have only been open now for 5 months we will have to see what the future
brings but for now almost all of our customers like our self serve model and each
week we are seeing an increase in business. To note most of our customers have been
    referred by word of mouth.

I hope we will see you again and thank you again for taking the time to write to me.

    Yours truly
